Fighting Hunger with Healthy Protein: Oddisea SuperFrozen Seafood Donation
Ridgefield, N.J., November 24, 2025 – Oddisea SuperFrozen, is incredibly proud to have partnered with SeaShare, showcasing our commitment to the accessibility of “the seafood we all deserve”—seafood that is clean, traceable, transparent, and responsible.
We recently completed a substantial donation of nearly 9,500 pounds, or 38,000 four-ounce servings, of high-quality seafood and seafood-alternative products to food banks in our communities in the Los Angeles and New Jersey areas.
This partnership allows us to directly confront food insecurity in our operating communities:
Filling a Protein Gap: According to SeaShare, protein constitutes only about two percent of all donations to food banks, and seafood is only a fraction of that. In a country where one in eight Americans experiences hunger (one in five children), ensuring access to nutrient-dense options like seafood is paramount. It’s not just about protein – the health-benefits of seafood are some of the most studied, showcasing its importance to wellness and brain and heart health.
Additionally, the rarity of these donations only amplifies difficulties in diverse communities when it comes to the accessibility of healthy protein options that meet dietary, religious or cultural food restrictions. As one partner from the Community Food Bank of New Jersey noted, “it is not often we see a fish donation, so we know our neighbors throughout the state are going to be thrilled when they see this.”
Reducing Waste: Oddisea SuperFrozen is committed to a future where transparency and accountability are the expectation, not the exception. Our SuperFrozen process is specifically designed to maximize quality and drastically minimize waste, loss, and shrink throughout the supply chain. This dedication to eliminating waste extends directly to our partnership with SeaShare, ensuring that no seafood goes wasted or unused. We are grateful to SeaShare for providing the mechanism to channel our high-quality products to those who need them most.
SeaShare: a non-profit organization, founded in 1994, dedicated to engaging the U.S. seafood industry in a collective effort to improve nutrition for individuals and families served by food banks and feeding centers. Their mission is vital because, while eating seafood twice a week is one of the best ways to get essential nutrients, protein makes up only about two percent of all food donated to food banks, and seafood accounts for only a fraction of that.
SeaShare fills this essential need, not only by providing nutritious food but also by championing sustainability. For example, by pioneering changes to federal regulations in Alaska, SeaShare helped create a process where commercially caught by-catch (unintentionally caught fish) is no longer discarded but is safely retained, processed, and distributed as a significant source of nutrition.
The organization provides the framework and logistics that coordinate donations—from fishermen to cold storage, processing, and shipping partners—enabling the industry to give on a massive scale. To date, SeaShare and its partners have collectively donated over 250 million seafood meals across the U.S.
